Atletico de Madrid and former Arsenal attacker Jose Antonio Reyes believes that Cesc Fabregas will not leave the north London club anytime in the near future.

The midfield maestro has been linked with a move to Barcelona on many occasions, as Joan Laporta, the president of the club, has openly expressed his appreciation for the Gunners' captain.

"People talk about Cesc Fabregas as if his move back to Spain is imminent but I can’t see him leaving Arsenal now or in the foreseeable future," Reyes told The Sunday Mirror.

"He is in his element and captains a side with vast potential."

The 26-year-old then shed some light on his former side's trophy drought, opining that silverware is just around the corner.

"Of course people are disappointed that Arsenal have gone so long without winning a trophy," Reyes said.

"There is pressure building on them to deliver but I am convinced it will come to an end this season. They have a strong squad of players who gained valuable experience playing together over a number of years and you can see from their results that the patience Arsene Wenger has with them is finally about to pay off."

The Spaniard then looked back on last season, when there had been heavy speculation concerning the future of the Arsenal manager.

"I was surprised last season when some of the supporters grew impatient and turned on Wenger," he said.

"With the exception of Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United, there is no better manager in the game.

"Wenger is smart, an exceptional coach who loathes losing and remains deeply ambitious. There is no real pressure on him other than that he puts on himself because the vast majority of Arsenal supporters and the club’s board worship him.

"He’s so unique in his thinking as well. No other club could assemble a young team like he has and unearth the talent he has brought to the club.

"Arsenal’s brand of football may have failed to land them trophies in recent seasons but that is about to come to end.

"I would be worried about them if I was Manchester United or Chelsea."
