Barcelona capped off a historic year by beating Estudiantes to win the Club World Cup, and Pep Guardiola was overcome with joy after the game.
The dream seemed set to end in disaster for the Blaugrana, but a late turnaround helped them secure to victory. Speaking after the match, Guardiola said, "This time next year, we will realize what we have achieved."
"Winning in this way is very special. We knew it would be a hard game.
"Firstly, I want to congratulate Estudiantes, because they were a very tough opponent."
Guardiola then commented on the historic nature of the achievement, continuing, "It is not easy to do what we have done."
"No-one else has ever achieved it. I want to thank the players.
"We must congratulate the institution, and all the people who make this club what it is.
"Now we need to enjoy the holidays and reflect on our achievement."
Guardiola then thanked certain players in particular, stating, "Today the players have been rewarded."
"I want to thank Eto'o and all the others who were here last year. They are also part of this success.
"Pedro is a player with enormous talent, with an eye to goal.
"He has helped us a lot."
Finally, Guardiola spoke of why Barcelona is "more than a club", saying, "We are the only club who are sponsored by Unicef."
"We have a different culture. In the end I believe we deserved the win.
"As for the future, there is a lot of work ahead."
